Epicurean Red Hill in 35mm film

Capturing weddings in 35mm film at Epicurean Red Hill…
There’s a moment I can still see like it happened five minutes ago. We are at Epicurean Red Hill. Golden hour was showing off through the tracks. The fireplaces were lit. Glasses clinked. Someone’s uncle was absolutely sending it on the dance floor, and the speeches had just hit the sweet spot between heart-melty and hilarious. I stepped outside, loaded a new roll of 35mm into my point & shoot, clicked the back shut. That tiny snap? It always gets me.
Digital is great. Reliable. Sharp. But film—film makes you pause. It makes you look.
Epicurean is one of those places that was made for film. The old timber beams, the moody wine barrels, the way the sun spills from the glass atrium in the afternoon—it’s got texture. Character. It’s not trying to be a showroom; it’s lived-in, and that shows up in the photos. You don’t pose here. You wander. You eat too much. You laugh loud. You disappear tracks for five minutes that turn into twenty with a glass of wine in hand.
And 35mm film loves that.
That roll I shot at Epicurean? Still one of my favourites. Not because every shot was technically perfect. But because it felt like the day. Like the couple. Like their friends and family and very good taste in wine. You can almost smell the woodfire pizza and hear someone’s nan laughing in the background.
Here’s what I know: 35mm doesn’t chase the ‘perfect shot’. It waits for the real ones. The in-betweens. The messy hugs and blurry kisses. The look someone gives right before they say I do. You can’t fake that, and film doesn’t let you try.
I shoot digital too, of course. But when I bring my film cameras to a wedding—especially one at Epicurean—it’s like bringing a bit of poetry to the party.
So if you’re getting married down here on the Peninsula, and you want photos that feel like a scene from your favourite movie—grainy, glowy, a little chaotic in the best way—let’s talk.
I’ll bring the film. You bring the people.
